After serving in the RAF Band in the Far East, Jimmy came to South Africa in 1970 to join the SABC Symphony Orchestra and after two years was appointed to ‘Principle Flute' in the PACT Symphony Orchestra. During this period he was offered the position at Pretoria University as Tutor in the Music department, and shortly after also appointed to the teaching staff at Wits University. He followed this with a long stint with the National Symphony Orchestra until its demise in 1997 after which he was able to involve himself with an early love of Celtic traditional music playing with Slip Jig and since the mid 90's he has been performing and recording with Waldorf String Band.
